We all know how crazy the holidays can be. Plus, with kids out of school for a few weeks, there’s more time to fill and activities to plan to keep them occupied. It’s also a sweet time to spend with your kids doing festive family activities! Whether it’s an inside activity or outside outing, we’ve got you covered. We put together a list of our favorite activities to do with kids to get in the Christmas spirit!
1. Go see Christmas lights
Many local neighborhoods get together to put on a spectacular light displays in their own front yards. Grab a hot chocolate, cozy jacket, and scarf, and walk around (if weather permits) or hop in the car and drive through. Kids will LOVE the magical holiday displays!
2. Host a movie night in
Let’s be honest. What household doesn’t have Netflix, Amazon Prime, or the new and beloved Disney+? Get in your PJs, grab the kiddos, some cozy blankets and snuggle up on the couch to watch one of these holiday classics:
- The Grinch / How the Grinch Stole Christmas
- Santa Claus
- The Polar Express
- A Charlie Brown Christmas
- Frosty the Snowman
- Elf
Extra bonus if you invite friends to join you or have easy snacks available such as a popcorn or hot chocolate bar!
3. Build a Gingerbread House
Gingerbread houses are an easy family holiday activity for any age! Lots of retailers such have super affordable Gingerbread House kits that are easy to assemble. Kids will love decorating their houses! If they’re a little older, add in the extra challenge of a house decorating competition judged by family or friends!
4. Make homemade Christmas cards or ornaments
All you need is some plain white paper and some markers, crayons, or paint. Have your kids create fun designs to give to family and friends. If you want to be a little more structured with the project, check out these ornament ideas, Christmas card ideas, and other Christmas crafts!
5. Visit the library
Take the kids on a little trip to the local library to hear a holiday book reading, or check out some Christmas books to read at home. Cozy up on the couch with your stack of books, and take turns reading to each other!
